THE STORY
Joe Della Penna grew up in Roselle, IL outside of Chicago. He started playing drums when he was 8 years old in his middle school band because he wanted to play in the band with his older brother, Mike. At 10, he began playing drums in his local church and at 13 he joined the high school drumline.
Joe attended the University of Colorado-Boulder, where he studied percussion under Doug Walter, Mike Tetreault, and Carl Dixon. Since then, he's played in a wide variety of groups across the Front Range region across a large span of genres including funk, rock, hip-hop, indie rock, jazz, musical theater, and more.
Joe currently serves as the Music Production teacher at Aurora Central High School in Aurora, CO, where he is building and developing a digital music program. In addition to teaching and performing, Joe is a private lesson instructor, arranger, songwriter, recording engineer, and producer.
